The 562nd birth anniversary of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankadrdeva was observed  at Barpeta Sattra and at Barpeta Bar Bazar like the rest of the state. The ‘Bar Bazar Yubak sangha’ have been  observing the birthday of Mahaprush Srimanta sankardeva every year with three or four days long programme. This year the programme was started from  October 16-19. The first religious discussion meet was held on October 17 which was inaugurated by Gunindra Nath Das, MLA, Barpeta. The religious meet of that day was conducted by Kabindra Nath Das, Rtd. Prof. M.C. College, Barpeta. In this meet Gopesh Thakuria, of Goalpara and  Keshab Mohan Kalita, member, Srimanta Sankardev Sangha, Assam addressed the gathering. In this very meeting, Akhil Gogoi, Secy, Krishak Mukti Sangram Sammittee,  explained in detail about the importance of Srimanta Sankardeva during this period. He explained in deail that how the kings of Kamrup had exploited the general people in ancient period and at present also the rulers have been exploiting the general people by depriving them from their proper rights. Gogoi also said that during the time of Ahom declination, Srimanta Sankardev was born only to reform the society and united Assamese society into one thread of unity and integrity.

On October 18 the second religious discussion meet was held under the conduction of Uddhab Ch. Das, Secretary, Sankar-Madhab Mission, Barpeta. The meet was inaugurated by Dimbeswar Das, Prof. Dhuburi. In this meet Deepak Das, Publicity Cell, Srimanta Sankardev Sangha, and Amulya Rajbonsgi, and SatyaSundar Bora, Jorhat also addressed.

Like wise at Barpeta Satra also the birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardeva was observed traditionally along with the religious discussion meeting.
